During the early 1980s I was involved in a show, touring theatres and other venues, called The Psychic & Mystics Show, consisting of three clairvoyants in the first half, then my hypnosis act making up the second half.
It was also my job to set the scene at the start of the performance. This is the routine I did.
Five ESP cards are shown to the audience and after explaining their use for testing ESP I showed them to be a Circle, Cross, Wavy Lines, Square and Star.
The backs of the cards were blank to prove without saying, that they were not marked in any manner. A Spector was allowed to mix them thoroughly.
One by one the cards were held up blank sides to the audience who were then asked to try and name each symbol by a show of hands as I named each one in no particular order. The person who was the most successful was invited forwards onto the stage to help further with the experiment.
The cards were again shuffled, and displayed one by one to this person, and they were asked to simply think of any design from the five (positively no force), as I displayed them one by one. Following which the cards were mixed three more times.
Still with the backs of the cards towards me in a fan, held by this person, I eliminated four cards leaving them with one sign in their hands. They named their secretly chosen sign; then turned the finale card to face the audience – it was the very sign they just named they were left holding.
It was an entertaining knockout ESP effect at every performance, setting the scene for everything that followed.
I am releasing this for the very first time, may I add it works every time, indeed at the start of the show we didn’t want any failure or mishap, it is almost self-working and a great way to open any show with all the audience participation involved.
