Harold Taylor’s ‘Sucker Silk to Egg’ was a great favourite in his programmes both with magicians and lay people alike.
Taylor showed a small silk handkerchief that he pushed into his closed fist. A magic word and the handkerchief had magically changed to an egg. Taylor now offered to teach his audience how to do it showing that the handkerchief was really pushed inside the blown egg through a small hole in its side.
Taylor removed the handkerchief and repeated the effect explaining all the moves to his audience. Just when they thought they knew how the trick was done, Taylor showed that they had been led up the garden path by breaking the egg into a glass – it was a real egg!
Taylor very kindly taught me his routine that did NOT require a fake egg but was performed from start to finish with a real one – so there was never an exchange of fake to real egg. A true masterpiece of magic.
I soon found, however, that I didn’t like working with genuine eggs because of the danger that they may get accidentally broken. I hunted around for alternatives using a lemon, a potato and even at one point a tomato but none had the impact of a real egg – until I accidentally discovered mini coke cans sold at supermarkets.
The routine is basically the same as Taylor's original except I have simplified some of the moves.
You tuck a small silk into your fist and it changes to a mini can of coke. You demonstrate the silk is inside the empty can and offer to show how it is done. This stunning effect is repeated but at the finish you open the can with a fizzzzz and pour out a full coke can that you or a spectator can drink!
Comes with 15-page illustrated paperback booklet and a certain something that you will need. Use your own coke can, small silk and glass/plastic tumbler.
